Mary Schwalbe was born in Gainesville, Florida in 1995 and studies studio art (with a concentration on painting) at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She also attended the Glasgow School of Art on exchange. Primarily focusing on portraiture, Mary is interested in exploring the vulnerability of expression and the often 'othering' burden of femininity.

She is on track to graduate in 2017 with a double minor in English and Philosophy.
